LISA, 45, TOLD BY HOSPITAL SHE WASN'T STRONG ENOUGH TO SURVIVE OP
Lisa Cushman has been refused her "last hope" transplant by specialists at the QE, pictured
A MUM-OF-FOUR refused a “last-hope” transplant fears she could “be dead in a couple of years” without the surgery.
Lisa Cushman, from Walsall, underwent assessments to be added to the waiting list for a double lung transplant at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital last week - only to be told she wasn’t “strong enough to survive” the operation.
The news came as a huge shock after the 45-year-old was referred to the QE and told she was eligible by a specialist hospital, The Royal Hallamshire in Sheffield.
Over the past 18 months, she has seen her long-term conditions - interstitial lung disease (ILD) and pulmonary hypertension - deteriorate significantly and she now relies on oxygen full-time.
Over the past 12 years Lisa has undergone various drug treatments and infusions in Sheffield and her local hospital, New Cross in Wolverhampton.
