Dog owner banned for leaving pet to suffer

A BIRMINGHAM man who threatened a RSPCA officer has been handed a 10-year animal ban after his underweight dog was found living in a garden.

The female cane corso, named Tokyo, was left in a dirty and wet outdoor area with no soft bedding.

She weighed 25.2kg - 10kg less than she should - and her bones were visible from a distance.

The RSPCA went to a property in Warwards Lane, Selly Oak, on April 10 last year to investigate reports of an underweight dog living in the rear garden.

Animal rescue officer Ash Moore saw Devon Jamal Tyreece Codrington leave via the back door with Toyko.

He said: “I followed him attempting to get him to stop and talk to me regarding the dog but he just kept walking as if I wasn’t there.

“He then turned around and shouted before he ran up towards me and took something out of his left inside coat pocket, which I believed to be a knife.
