SPORTS CENTRE GETS GREEN LIGHT FOR PADEL DESPITE OBJECTIONS
CONTROVERSIAL proposals for padel courts have been given the green light at a Birmingham tennis venue.
Sutton Coldfield Tennis Club, in Highbridge Road, lodged can now replace one tennis court with three new covered padel courts, each 10 metres by 20 metres.
Padel is a fast-growing sport, played in an enclosed court and described as a cross between tennis and squash.
The padel courts, which are set to be used from 8am to 9pm each day, have attracted objections over noise, with local residents claiming that padel is “significantly louder than tennis”, and comparing the sound to gunshots.
