AS soon as Abdul Fatawu’s volley hit the back of the net and the Albion fans ended the game at Leicester City singing ‘Ryan Mason get out of our club; his departure almost felt inevitable.

Albion simply must get it right this time

The final straw for the Baggies hierarchy came on Monday night as Abdul Fatawu's late winner led to the departure of Ryan Mason

And sure enough those supporters woke up to confirmation he had gone the very next morning.

Ten away losses in a row at any level at any time of the year is simply unacceptable, never mind at a club of the Baggies’ standing and stature. It is not good enough and he knew it and had to pay for it.

What's even more baffling is Albion started so well on the road. The away form has been poor for much longer than Mason’s tenure and stretches back to several managers. But he started with a win at Wrexham, which looks even better now with the way the Welsh side has adapted to life in the Championship since, Stoke and Norwich. Yet nothing since, defeat after defeat after defeat.

No matter how they play, like Monday night for example when they actually played well, they still inexplicably find a way to lose when they deserve to win.
