Family bid to build home by canal after 16 years on barge

A Bath family are hoping to get planning permission to build their own “unique” home by the Kennet & Avon Canal after living off-grid on a barge for 16 years.
Bath and North East Somerset Council's planning committee were set to decide yesterday (Wednesday) on a planning application described by the applicants as “an unusual site and an unusual proposal”.
It would see a four-bedroom family home built next to the towpath near the Folly Footbridge. Construction materials would be transported to the building site by boat.
