Four members of Bath Amphibians Triathlon Club qualified to represent their age groups for Great Britain at the European Championships in Pamplona, Spain.

In the aquathlon (1k swim, 5k run), GB newcomer Ben Smith (senior 25-29) claimed sixth while Suze McQuie (FV45-49) finished tenth in her category.

The middle-distance triathlon championship (1.9k swim, 86k bike, 21k run) saw Marianne Carpenter (FV 50-54) miss the podium by a mere 16 seconds to finish fourth in five hours 13 minutes.

She said: “The bike course was really testing, with a lot of hills and some technical switchback descents, but the crowd support on the final half-marathon through the Old City was incredible”

Club chairman Graham Oak (Vet 60-64) placed 23rd in 5:57.
