Applicant list likely Wednesday night
Either six or seven candidates are expected to compete to become the next head of the Bank of Thailand, with the complete list of applicants slated for release last night, the closing date for applications.
Speaking yesterday, Finance Minister Pichai Chunhavajira said he expects 6-7 individuals to apply for governor of the central bank.
“I don’t know who has applied, but I expect around 6-7 applicants. We should know the names this evening,” he said.
The Finance Ministry is accepting applications for the position to replace Sethaput Suthiwartnarueput, the current central bank governor, who is due to retire at the end of September. The application period opened on May 13 and ended yesterday.
Mr Sethaput was appointed governor in 2020 and is ineligible for a second term because he reached the retirement age of 60.
