The latest crackdown on e-cigarette labs in Pattaya and Bangkok this week is a stark reminder that e-cigarettes - illegal products that have become a lifestyle accessory for young people and partygoers - are growing more widespread and more dangerous.

Narcotics Suppression Bureau (NSB) officers reportedly dismantled Chinese-linked operations in two major raids. Over the weekend, police arrested a Chinese suspect at a rented house in Pattaya and seized caches of "Zombie Pods" worth 10 million baht, along with etomidate, an anaesthetic used to enhance the feeling of intoxication.
On Monday, police officers raided two apartments in Soi Sukhumvit 13 in Bangkok, arresting another Chinese national and confiscating 552 Zombie Pods and related paraphernalia.
Thailand, where e-cigarettes remain banned, has nonetheless seen a steady rise in users - particularly among the young.
