Thai-flagged vessel struck

The Thai-flagged bulk carrier Mayuree Naree was struck by an unknown projectile near the Strait of Hormuz yesterday, damaging its engine room and forcing crew members to abandon ship. The vessel, owned by Precious Shipping Plc, was sailing from the United Arab Emirates to Kandla Port in India.

A Thai-flagged bulk carrier came under attack near the Strait of Hormuz yesterday, prompting urgent efforts by Thai authorities to assist the vessel's 23 crew members amid the Middle East war and growing concerns over global energy supplies.

Rear Admiral Parach Rattanachaipan, spokesman for the Royal Thai Navy (RTN), said the navy's maritime traffic control centre received an initial report about 11am that the bulk carrier Mayuree Naree, a Thai-flagged vessel with a displacement of about 30,000 tonnes, had been struck while sailing in waters near the Strait of Hormuz.

The vessel, owned by Precious Shipping Plc, had departed Khalifa Port in the United Arab Emirates around 3am earlier the same day before the incident occurred.
