Skirmish with rebels spills across border

Nine houses in Tak's Mae Sot district have been damaged by shrapnel and stray bullets after fighting broke out between Myanmar troops and Karen National Union (KNU) forces.

A border source yesterday said clashes broke out between Myanmar's 22nd Military Division and the KNU 6th Brigade near Min La Pan, a village in Myawaddy township, opposite Huai Maha Wong and Mae Kon Ken villages in tambon Mahawan.

Fighting has also been reported across the border from Ban Mae Luang in tambon Mae Ku, involving both heavy weapons and small arms.
