Pimpichaya powers Kingdom into last 16
-
Thailand progressed to the Round of 16 of the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championship after registering their second successive win in Pool A on Sunday night.
The reigning Asian champions overwhelmed Sweden 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-22) at Bangkok's Indoor Stadium. The victory followed their 3-1 win against Egypt in the opening match on Friday.
The Thais, who have six points, will today battle it out against the Netherlands, who have five points after sweeping past Egypt 3-0 (25-15, 25-13, 25-13) earlier in the day, for the top spot in the pool.
Sweden, with one, and Egypt, with zero points, are out of contention.
Backed by thousands of fans at the packed Indoor Stadium, star opposite Pimpichaya Kokram again had an impressive performance, leading the Thai offence with 23 points (20 kills, two aces, one block). Middle blocker Thatdao Nuekjang also reached double digits with 11 (10 kills, one block).
