Syria reports IDF strikes, more clashes

Syria said Israel launched fresh strikes near Damascus on Wednesday, following two days of deadly sectarian clashes that left nearly 40 people dead. The violence prompted Israel to issue a warning over attacks targeting the Druze minority.

The sectarian unrest and Israeli intervention pose significant challenges to Syria’s new Islamist authorities, who overthrew longtime ruler Bashar al-Assad in December. It comes in the wake of last month's massacres in Syria's Alawite heartland on the Mediterranean coast.
United Nations special envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen condemned the violence as “unacceptable” and expressed alarm at “the potential for further escalation of an extremely fragile situation”.
State news agency SANA reported “Israeli occupation strikes on the vicinity’ of Sahnaya, southwest of the capital.
