SSF spending triggers fury

The Ministry of Labour cafeteria in Din Daeng, as photographed yesterday, is at the centre of debate over a 12-million-baht renovation funded by the Social Security Office. NUTTHAWAT WICHIEANBUT

Concerns about transparency and efficiency of Social Security Fund (SSF) spending have surfaced after Rukchanok Srinork, a People's Party MP candidate, highlighted cases of SSF money being used for "questionable projects".

These range from the construction of a 12-million-baht canteen at the Ministry of Labour's office to large-scale investments and purchases criticised as wasteful and lacking participation from the insured.

The "Progressive Social Security" Facebook page in a post pointed to another issue: an 800-million-baht investment in the TU Dome project at Thammasat University's Rangsit campus in Pathum Thani province.

The complex has deteriorated after it was abandoned, causing share values to plunge from 10 baht per unit to just 1 baht, the post said.
