Praise for e-commerce tax plan

The Customs Department's plan to tax all imported e-commerce goods from Jan 1 is positive, a Thammasat University economics lecturer says.

Thailand has exempted import duty and value-added tax (VAT) on items priced below 1,500 baht until now. However, in recent years, domestic smalland medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) have been hit with unfair competition due to the influx of cheap goods from neighbouring countries.
