PP boss ‘sorry’ for slow charter rejig

People’s Party (PP) leader Natthaphong Rueangpanyawut yesterday apologised for the stalled charter reform efforts, while Pheu Thai accused Bhumjaithai (BJT) of evading responsibility after Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul decided to dissolve the House ahead of the originally planned timeline.

Mr Natthaphong said he felt disappointed his party had been unable to complete the mission of pushing forward the process of rewriting the charter, and offered an apology for the unfinished work.

Still, he noted that parliament had approved the first referendum question, asking voters whether they agree a new constitution should be drafted, and that the government remains legally obligated to proceed under the Referendum Act.

The PP leader expressed hope that the first referendum could still be held alongside the general election to ensure continuity in the reform process.
