Petition over Pheu Thai event
Bangkok Post
|January 20, 2026
Activist Srisuwan Janya yesterday filed a petition with the Election Commission (EC) seeking an investigation into Chaturon Chaisaeng, a Pheu Thai Party party-list MP candidate, over the dissemination of a video clip featuring youth football players that promoted approval of a constitutional amendment in the upcoming referendum.
Mr Srisuwan submitted the complaint to the EC and its secretary-general, arguing that the clip may violate the law. He cited a video posted online on Jan 14 showing Mr Chaturon and his team visiting the popular Montong Wittaya School football team, where images and audio of coach Sakon Kliangprasert and his players were used to encourage the public to vote in favour of amending or drafting a new constitution in the Feb 8 referendum.
The video sparked widespread criticism, with concerns raised about drawing children into political activity and questions over whether the team’s reputation was used for political gain without consent.
