Panel sets deadline for BoT governor

The selection committee for the governor of the Bank of Thailand has set a deadline to submit a shortlist of candidates by July 2 to the finance minister.
Current central bank governor Sethaput Suthiwartnarueput is 60 years old and scheduled to complete his term on Sept 30. He was appointed governor in 2020 and is ineligible for a second term because he reached retirement age.
The application process for a new governor must begin at least 90 days before the current term ends.
Pornchai Thiraveja, director-general of the Fiscal Policy Office (FPO) and secretary of the selection committee for governor, said at its second meeting on May 7 the committee resolved to open applications for nominees for the next central bank chief.
Applicants must be Thai nationals under 60 on the date the cabinet approves the nomination for royal appointment.
