NOT ONE FOR THE PUPS

Fixed is a raunchy animated comedy that mistakes shock value for actual humour and ends up being a tedious 90-minute mess

If you're constantly flicking through your streaming library looking for a new animated cartoon to watch while feeding your toddler breakfast, don't let the cutesy puppy images of Netflix's newest animated movie Fixed fool you. The content you are about to unleash over the next hour-and-a-half is nothing like the adorable and family-friendly content its posters suggest.

Bull (voiced by Adam DeVine) is an average mutt from Chicago. After years of enjoying his dog life full of small mischiefs and naughty habits, he suddenly learns that his family plans to have him neutered the very next morning. Faced with the end of his "manhood", Bull decides he needs one last adventure with his pack of buddies. He runs off with his friends — Rocco the boxer (Idris Elba), Fetch the dachshund (Fred Armisen) and Lucky the beagle (Bobby Moynihan) — for a wild, debauchery-filled night of hurrahs before he has to say goodbye to his testicles.

On paper, that premise could be twisted into something clever, outrageous or at least knowingly silly. And with a voice cast stacked with names like Adam DeVine, Idris Elba, Catherine Hahn, Fred Armisen and Michelle Buteau, one might expect some spark of comedy. And the cast indeed does a fine job delivering their lines with energy. Unfortunately, that's pretty much where the positives end.
