NHRC teams up to shield conscripts

Forces cooperate to improve standards

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has joined hands with the army and navy in drafting a framework aimed at improving the treatment of new conscripts.

NHRC commissioner Wasan Paileeklee said the draft “Do's & Don'ts” guidelines are intended to support the armed forces while preventing torture and inappropriate conduct within training units.

They place an emphasis on respect for human dignity and the prevention of all forms of abuse during military training while seeking to raise training standards in line with human rights principles, while maintaining discipline and operational readiness, Mr Wasan said.
