Ministry raises anti-torture law awareness

Two years after the Prevention and Suppression of Torture and Enforced Disappearance Act came into force, officials at the Rights and Liberties Protection Department (RLPD) under the Justice Ministry say the challenge now lies in ensuring every state official understands both the letter and the spirit of the legislation.

Deputy RLPD Director-General Theerayuth Kaewsing told participants at a workshop yesterday that strengthening awareness among law enforcement officers remains essential to fulfilling the Act's mandate, which aims to stop abuses before they happen.

The workshop, attended by civil society organisations, foundation networks, and members of the media, focused on how government agencies must create clear operational protocols that align with the law.
