Justice minister off DSI duty

The Constitutional Court has unanimously ordered Justice Minister Pol Col Tawee Sodsong to temporarily cease performing his duties in overseeing the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) and serving as deputy chair of the Special Cases Board.
The ruling, issued yesterday, comes amid concerns of interference in a vote-rigging probe into last year's Senate election.
It follows a petition submitted in March by the Senate Speaker on behalf of 92 senators, who questioned whether Defence Minister Phumtham Wechayachai and Justice Minister Tawee had overstepped their authority by directing the DSI to treat the Senate election as a special criminal case.
Petitioners argued this amounted to political interference and a breach of ethical standards under Sections 160 and 170 of the constitution.
