Industrial sentiment descends to a 39-month low

The Thai Industries Sentiment Index (TISI) continues to decrease, falling to 86.4 points in August, the lowest level recorded since June 2022, due toa combination of political, economic, and natural disaster factors, says the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI).
The indicator, which gauges business confidence in the manufacturing sector, stood at 86.6 points in July.
Entrepreneurs expressed concerns over political uncertainty after the Constitutional Court's decision to dismiss then premier Paetongtarn Shinawatra from office on Aug 29 for an ethics violation, following a leaked telephone callin June, during which she appeared to kowtow to Cambodian Senate President Hun Sen when both countries were on the brink ofan armed border conflict.
Before the verdict, the judges suspended Ms Paetongtarn from duty, dealing a blow to public trust and affecting confidence among investors.
