Gold prices rise for seventh straight week

Gold prices recorded a seventh consecutive weekly gain, supported by growing concerns over the economic impact of a prolonged US government shutdown and expectations of interest rate cuts.

The afternoon fixing on Friday in London was $3,885.70 an ounce, compared with $3,769.85 a week earlier. Spot gold reached a record high of $3,896.49 on Thursday. Thai selling prices were quoted at 59,450 baht per baht-weight (15.2 grammes), up 2,050 baht from the previous week.
“I think the longer the government stays shut down, that’s going to be a steady bullish element for the gold market,’ said Jim Wyckoff, senior analyst at Kitco Metals.
