Finance minister calls for fiscal discipline

Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapas says every policy using public funding must deliver value for money, while the “Khon La Khrueng” co-payment scheme is expected to begin next month.
Mr Ekniti says transparency is essential in designing fiscal blueprints.
"Fitch’s decision to revise our outlook is something we must take seriously," he said, referring to Fitch Ratings lowering the nation’s outlook to negative from stable earlier this week, citing ongoing political uncertainties as posing a growing risk to Thailand’s public finances.
Mr Ekniti said the government will demonstrate to ratings agencies its commitment to strengthening fiscal governance.
New Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul insisted every policy rolled out must prioritise fiscal discipline to build confidence, adhering to the principles of good governance, with clear disclosures of project costs, expected benefits and outcomes to ensure transparency, he said.
