Embassies to see weekend protests

The “United Land Power to Protect Sovereignty” group, a nationalist coalition, announced plans to stage a protest outside the American and Malaysian embassies on Saturday to oppose “foreign interference” in Thai sovereignty in its attempt to resolve the border conflict with Cambodia.
Jatuporn Prompan, a leading member of the group, said yesterday the rally is to protest the involvement by US President Donald Trump and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in the country’s handling of the Thai-Cambodian conflict.
The move follows reports that Washington temporarily halted reciprocal trade negotiations with Thailand, pending Bangkok’s commitment to uphold the Thailand-Cambodia peace declaration and move swiftly to solve the border dispute.
The suspension of trade negotiations comes after the government decided to suspend the peace agreement with Cambodia in the wake of a landmine explosion that injured several Thai soldiers.
