EGAT AshNova Turns Waste Into Green Innovation

The world is grappling with unprecedented environmental challenges, from climate change and pollution to rising demands on natural resources.

In response, many organisations have embraced sustainability as a critical priority and adopted the circular economy model to transform production processes. This approach focuses on energy and resource optimisation, enhanced waste management, and zero-waste operations—driving meaningful environmental preservation and supporting the achievement of carbon neutrality goals.

The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) has adopted the circular economy principle at its Mae Moh Power Plant in Lampang Province by repurposing byproducts from lignite coal-fired power generation—namely fly ash, bottom ash, and synthetic gypsum. Rather than disposing of these materials via landfilling, EGAT aims to maximise their value by converting them into raw inputs for use in industries such as cement, concrete, construction, fertiliser, and soil conditioning.
