Organised by the National Research Council of Thailand, Thailand Inventors' Day 2026 runs until Friday at Event Hall 102-103, BITEC Bangna Exhibition and Convention Center. Instead of presenting scientific innovations, Life interviewed two researchers — Prof Dusadee Ayuwat and Assoc Prof Prajak Kongkirati - who are among 15 researchers from nine fields who received the 2026 National Outstanding Researcher Awards as part of Thailand Inventors' Day 2026. While Prof Dusadee received the award in Sociology, Assoc Prof Prajak received the award in Political Science and Public Administration.

National Outstanding Researcher 2026 (Sociology)

Prof Dusadee, a distinguished scholar at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Khon Kaen University, conducted research on labour and migration issues in Isan over three decades. Her research aims to prevent risks that Isan people encounter when they seek work abroad.

"In the past, Isan was known as a region of poverty and lacking education. The fact that people from Isan were able to leave home and travel abroad was fascinating to me. While most people focused on the benefits of being migrant workers, my research pointed out problems hidden within those opportunities. Thus, they should be aware of the risks and prepare to deal with them," said Prof Dusadee.

Prof Dusadee noted that working abroad involves risks such as being scammed from fake agents.

Therefore, people should apply for jobs directly with the Department of Employment, Ministry of Labour. To prevent problems, two primary parties — the workers and their families — should have clear communication.
