The tense situation in the border province of Sa Kaeo, with Cambodian villagers staging a rowdy protest at Ban Nong Ya Kaeo village, has resulted in injuries on both sides and requires attention from decision-makers in the Thai government.

Thailand on Wednesday dispatched crowd control police at the spot where some 200 Cambodian villagers tried to remove a security barricade. The gathering shortly followed an inspection trip by the interim International Observer Team from Asean countries.
Initially, four Thai police officers were injured after some of the protesters threw stones, wood and other objects as Cambodian security officers looked on.
The riot prompted Thai officers to use tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse the crowd. A few weeks ago, Nong Chan, which is located 16 kilometres away from Ban Nong Ya Kaeo, also in Khok Sung district, experienced a similar confrontation.
