Local instructor attempting to prevent road deaths with modern learning experience

- STUART WILSON

A new Driving Academy is putting motorists behind the wheel of a Scottish first.

Greer’s Gears, a tuition school based in Ayr, has unveiled a state-of-the-art simulator boasting giant 8k screens where drivers can road test the real thing.

Boss Chris Greer, a former Met Police detective, says driving up safety standards has inspired his cutting-edge investment.

‘The bespoke system is one of only two in operation in Britain, and Greer insists the fully immersive experience can give learners a vital head start for hitting the road.

Chris, 51, told the Post: “I believe the possibilities of this are infinite.

“I could start to teach someone on this simulator from as young as 12 and the ultimate aim is to change attitudes towards road safety before young adults even step foot inside the real thing.

“I was 26 years with the Met and had an incident where I had to investigate a fatal road accident.
