Probe completed in 16 days; case reported just a day after BNS implemented in 2024
In a landmark judgment, the Fast Track Special Court in Surat has sentenced a 37-year-old man to life imprisonment till the end of his natural life — marking the first conviction in a rape case registered under the newly implemented sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The offence was reported on July 2, 2024, just a day after the new law came into effect.
