Study finds that high consumption of sodas, packaged snacks is linked with an increased risks of cancer, mental health issues and premature death
-
Ultra-processed foods (UPFs) — including sodas, packaged snacks, and processed meats — are industrially altered products loaded with additives and low in nutrients. Today, these foods make up nearly 60% of an average adult’s diet and close to 70% of children’s diets. Designed to enhance taste and shelf life, UPFs often lead to overeating while diminishing nutritional value.
These days, around 60% of daily calorie intake comes from UPFs. High consumption of these products has been associated with increased risks of obesity, cancer, metabolic and cardiovascular diseases, mental health issues, and even premature death.
