Gujarat tightens rules on property registrations

Following High Court ruling, circular bars unilateral cancellation deeds; directs strict identity, title verification by sub-registrars

In a decisive move to curb fraudulent property transactions and safeguard landowners’ rights, Jenu Devan, Inspector General of Registration and Superintendent of Stamps, has issued a comprehensive circular tightening the rules governing property registrations across Gujarat. The directive follows a landmark judgment of the Gujarat High Court and squarely targets the rampant misuse of so-called “unilateral cancellation deeds”.
