Carnival has 100 reasons to celebrate

ACCRINGTON Carnival will celebrate a very special anniversary this month.
Generations of families have enjoyed this vibrant event over the years and some have had the pleasure of being crowned carnival royalty.
Accrington Carnival was born in 1926 when funds were needed to build an extension to include nurses living quarters at Accrington Victoria Hospital.
A carnival procession was the brainchild of the town's Mayor that year, Alderman Charles Wilkinson.
The Accrington Hospital fete took place on August 14, 1926, and more than £1,000 was raised towards the hospital extension fund.
