Tenth defeat in a row for battling Falcons
The Rugby Paper
|December 17, 2023
LIONS blindside Emmanuel Tshituka scored two second-half tries as Newcastle were taken back to school by a brutally powerful South African side in Johannesburg.
Two Falcons sin-bins allowed the Gauteng-based side to run riot after halftime, dominating the forwards battle and scoring five tries in total to get their first bonus-point win of the Challenge Cup to go top of Pool 2.
Despite plenty of effort, it ramps up the heat on Newcastle who have now suffered 10 straight defeat across all competitions.
Falcons coach Mark Laycock said: “Going down to 13 men before half-time was difficult but at 21-13 down on 60 minutes we felt we had a genuine chance. I can’t fault the boys, their effort and endeavour has been outstanding.”
