Roebuck aims to rise high for Sale

IN-FORM Sale winger Tom Roebuck hopes to help fire his boyhood team into their first Premiership final in 17 years.

Roebuck was only five when Sale won the league title for the one and only time in their history in 2006. The semi-final defeat to Exeter two seasons ago was the closest they have come to delivering a second trophy in the competition until today’s last-four shootout against Leicester.

Roebuck, 22, was on the fringes of the first team when they lost to Exeter but is now an integral part of the team that he supported as a boy.

Buoyed by a sell-out home crowd which will include his parents, Gary and Katie, and brother Archie, who plays for Chester 2nds, Roebuck is gunning to make it a day to remember for everyone involved with the club.

“This is a semi-final, this is where we want to be; it is plain and simple in our minds, we have just got to put on a performance to win,” he said.

“We’re not going to treat it differently. What we have done has worked for us so far this season so we don’t want to change too much up.

“There is an added bonus that it is at home and it is sold out so that will give us a boost when we walk in and when we walk onto the pitch, having the crowd behind us.”

Going on to lift the trophy at Twickenham, he admits, would be “class”.
