'CVC deal is very bad for rugby'

FRANCIS Baron believes that the RFU is in the grip of a crisis which has been fuelled by the CVC Six Nations deal it signed in 2021
Baron argues it should lead to wholesale changes among those responsible for the deal in the top echelon of the RFU Board and administration.
Having undertaken the first detailed analysis of the CVC acquisition of 14.3 per cent of the RFU’s sponsorship and commercial rights to the Six Nations tournaments (men, women and U20), and all its Autumn series internationals, Baron, CEO of the RFU from 1998 until 2010, believes it will leave rugby union in England, and its governing body, in financial jeopardy.
In an exclusive article in today’s Rugby Paper, Baron highlights his grave concerns over the shareholding acquired from the RFU by the private equity giant CVC, giving them the opportunity to profit from one of English rugby’s richest revenue streams.
