Carline’s winner came with ten minutes to go as Brackey’s revival under interim boss Gaz Dean.

The centre-half, sidelined by injury, took over on April 8 following the dismissal of Roger Johnson after just one win in 11 games.

It was form that was threatening to see the Northamptonshire side tumble out of the play-offs.

But Dean, who captained the club to FA Trophy glory in 2018, and his staff have steadied the ship and got the club one game away from finally achieving their Step 1 dream after five play-off campaigns of heartbreak.

“I thought we were brilliant – genuinely brilliant from start to finish,” Dean said. “To come here in front of 4,500 fans and perform like that, they were absolutely amazing. Everything we told them to do, they implemented, they executed everything.
