HOW DOUBLE ENGINE IS SHAPING A NEW GOA

Goa

With a clear vision and unwavering commitment of the Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modiji, Chief Minister of Goa Dr Pramod Sawant is steering the state towards a new era of progress across multiple sectors.

Interestingly, Dr Sawant shares his birthday with cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, albeit a year apart. Much like Tendulkar, who let his bat speak for him, Dr Sawant prefers to let his work speak for itself. Humble yet determined, he has been consistently working to realise the aspirations of the people and elevate Goa to greater heights.

An Ayurvedic practitioner by training, Dr Sawant was focused from the outset on implementing the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat—Swayampurna Goa’ initiative. This flagship programme was launched to address grassroots issues and enhance the quality of life for Goans. Beyond mere policy, it became a movement, with the Chief Minister, his ministers, MLAs, and local representatives actively taking part in its implementation.

Recognising that citizens, especially in rural areas, often face challenges in accessing senior officials, Dr Sawant introduced the innovative ‘Administration at Your Doorstep’ programme. This initiative ensured that ministers, MLAs, and government officials visited constituencies regularly. During these outreach efforts, pending documents were distributed on the spot, and immediate resolutions were offered for local grievances.

The past few years under Dr Sawant’s stewardship have marked a transformational phase for Goa, with major infrastructure projects, socialwelfareschemes, and empowerment initiatives reshaping lives.

Infrastructural Achievements

Among the major achievements is the iconic New Zuari Bridge—India’s second-longest cable-stayed bridge with eight lanes, constructed at a cost of Rs 2,530 crore. It has significantly boosted intrastate connectivity and stands as a symbol of modern Goa.

Why Delhi can't be Indraprastha

The recent proposal by a Delhi BJP MP to officially rename the capital city from Delhi to 'Indraprastha'—invoking the legendary city of the Pandavas from the Mahabharat—is more than a superficial suggestion. It is a politically motivated attempt to rewrite the complex, multilayered history of one of the world’s oldest continuously inhabited metropolises.

Freedom on independence day

Volodymyr Mykolayenko, mayor of the city of Kherson in south Ukraine from February 2014 till December 2020, was aware of the perils of Russian attacks, because he witnessed the occupation of Crimea in 2014. But he never believed that Russians would attack the south of Ukraine and that too his city, Kherson. Here are excerpts from what he told Mridula Ghosh after he was freed from Russian captivity.
