Where devotion meets destination, a new Digha rises — part pilgrimage, part pleasure, wrapped in architectural splendour and the promise of rejuvenation

The Digha we knew from another era was a flat, unassuming beach — no surf to speak of, no sandcastles to build. Just a few casuarina trees and the occasional thrill of a private aircraft descending onto the sandy stretch. One memorable summer included an offer to try landing a plane there myself — an adventure I wisely declined.

Back then, Digha was hardly the playground of the chic urban traveller. It evolved slowly, with modest hotels and guesthouses catering to the middle class. But like a teenager coming into its own, the town began to change. Better hotels took root. Resorts emerged with pools, spas, and curated cuisine. A quiet transformation began. However, Digha stayed always a step behind the developmental curve of its other beach-town cousins such as Mandarmani or Tajpur.
