A man's struggle to come to terms with his past is beautifully told.
-
This adaptation of Denis Johnson's 2011 novella Train Dreams tells its poignant T story with extraordinary beauty.
Joel Edgerton is Robert Grainier, a logger in 1917 Idaho who joins a crew tasked with building a railway across the United States and, as the film's narrator tells us, "wishes he never had". Robert witnesses a workplace death that preys on his mind for the rest of his life, as he grapples with the guilt of inaction and what he fears is the slow rollout of divine retribution.
