How UNB's master of engineering leadership in design innovation prepares graduates for the jobs of tomorrow
-
From climate change to the housing crisis, we live in challenging times. For some individuals, these modern-day challenges equal opportunity: to conceive new and innovative solutions and to drive the future.
Rooted in scientific and mathematical rigour, the field of engineering has long been a driver of progress. But truly becoming a changemaker requires more than just technical skills.
MELDI, the University of New Brunswick (UNB)'s new master of Engineering Leadership in Design Innovation program, takes a fresh, interdisciplinary approach, equipping students with the mix of advanced technical knowledge and change management expertise that's required to solve today's challenges.
"There is a growing urgency to promote sustainability and resiliency in engineering practices," says Dr. Petra Hauf, provost and vice-president academic at UNB.
"MELDI focuses on equipping students with the skills to lead these efforts. Our graduates will benefit from courses at the School of Leadership Studies that increase their knowledge of the diversity of society, how to be adaptable and how to effectively lead projects. Together with the hands-on design studio and summer co-op, students complete the program with a wide array of knowledge, skills and experience," Hauf says.
