THE slogan for this summer's Women's Euros is 'the summit of emotions' - and Wales have already endured and enjoyed plenty by qualifying for the finals.

Rhian Wilkinson's side reached their first major tournament by beating the Republic of Ireland 2-1 away in early December for a 3-2 play-off win on aggregate.

A Hannah Cain penalty and Carrie Jones effort gave the Dragons a two-goal lead in Dublin before Anna Patten pulled one back late on to ensure a nervy finale. The visitors held on to book their place and put previous qualifying disappointments behind them.

Wilkinson said: "This team found a way, they stayed strong. I've never been prouder of a team."

Wales' most-capped player and record scorer Jess Fishlock was elated.

"I can't put it into words," the 38-year-old told Match of the Day Wales. "This is 20 years in the making. I wouldn't change a second of it.
