They say, “To travel is to live.” But to step foot on African soil is to awaken to a deeper sense of connection, to a world that hums with rhythm, colour, spirit, and soul.

This June, we turned the editorial spotlight onto a theme that is both personal and powerful: My Africa Story. When we invited our readers to share their experiences with the African continent—be it through diplomacy, business, travel, or happenstance—we anticipated reflections. What we received were revelations.

As I sat with a warm cup of tea, dedicating an entire day to reading these diverse submissions, I found myself laughing, tearing up, and pausing in quiet reflection. These were not just stories—they were soul prints. Each narrative captured Africa in its own light: as a mentor, a muse, a mystery, and above all, as a friend.

Africa has a strange magic about it. It does not simply welcome you; it absorbs you. It doesn’t merely host you; it teaches you, tests you, and transforms you. No one comes back from Africa the same person.

And that brings me to my own Africa story—one that I have never quite put down in words until now.
