Women songwriters Hall of Fame event honors 12 Internationally renown women of song, Melba Moore, Brenda Russell, Regina Belle, are three of the women who contributions empowers the legacy of music by spotlighting the artistry and impact of female songwriters and composers.
lan and Russell have both received Grammy nods for song of the year - lan for "At Seventeen" (1976) and Russell for "Piano in the Dark" (1989).

"I was just about to enter high school when the song "Family Affair" by Sly and the Family Stone came out. In my neighborhood (North Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) there was a lot of unrest due to turf wars by area Gangs taking place. A song like "Family Affair" was very powerful because (When it came on the radio) it made people forget about fighting for a minute and come together as family".

Sly Stone, was born in Denton Texas on March 13, 1943 as Sylvester Stewart. He spent his childhood growing up in Vallejo, California, where along with his siblings, Freddie, Rose and Loretta, their first group, the Stewart Four, was formed. They were a Gospel Group who recorded their first song “On The Battlefield” with the B side “Walking in Jesus Name”.
By the age of 11, Sly had already mastered the keyboard, guitar, bass and drums. During this early phase he had already recorded several solo projects using the name Danny Stewart.
