ALVA HAS NO PLANS TO STOP LENDING A HAND
At age 97, there's not much Alva Lewis doesn't do. Living in the home she's owned for 70 years, she gardens, attends exercise classes and boasts a social life many half her age would find overwhelming! She's also an ardent volunteer, and in the coming days, you'll find her at a shopping centre in West Essendon armed with a tray of poppies and badges.
“I've been selling [them] for 16 years,” Alva, who volunteers for RSL Victoria, proudly tells New Idea. "I hope I do it until I'm 100!"
