Not only can a DIY mani double as a moment of self-care, but it can also save you an expensive trip to the salon. And if you have a few nail care tips up your sleeve, an at-home session really isn't as tricky as it seems. To make sure your knowledge is up to scratch, we chatted to founder of LèCil, Melissa Cusick, on all things hand care and how to pull off a salon-worthy mani.

MAKE IT LAST

The key to a long-lasting manicure is all in the prep. “Start with clean, dry nails and ensure any oils or lotions are completely removed,” says Melissa. “Then lightly buff the nail surface to give your polish a better grip.” If using press-ons, avoid submersion in water and oils as much as possible and don't forget gloves when doing chores. “They're your manicure's best friend!” she stresses.
