He was banned from coming to Melbourne for this year's Australian Open, but bankrupt Boris Becker is taking this latest blow in his stride, after surviving a terrifying ordeal in one of Britain's toughest jails.

The triple-Wimbledon champion was gaunt and seven kilos lighter when he was released from HMP Huntercombe prison just before Christmas.

He had served eight months of a two-and a-half-year sentence, including a stint in brutal Wandsworth Prison.

The conviction came after Boris was declared bankrupt in 2017, owing creditors almost $90 million. He was forced to sell properties in London and Majorca to pay them back, and was jailed for concealing millions of dollars' worth of assets from his creditors.

"I call this the most difficult year of my life. But it's done, it's dusted. I came out alive. I think I came out stronger. I think my mental health is better than ever," Boris recently reassured fans.
