The long-anticipated exposition of the relics of St. Francis Xavier commenced on November 21, 2024, and will continue until January 5, 2025.

This rare event, which occurs once every decade, was last held in 2014-2015, this is the exposition's 18th year and it stands as a momentous occasion to celebrate the miraculous legacy of the great St. Francis Xavier. Pilgrims and visitors from around the world are making their way to Goa, eager for a glimpse of the man whose influence on history remains profound.

The Ancient Significance of St. Francis Xavier

St. Francis Xavier, a Spanish missionary, traveled extensively across Asia during the 16th century, spreading Christianity in regions such as India, Japan, and other parts of Southeast Asia. His journey to Goa in 1542 marked the beginning of his lifelong mission to help the local people, share the teachings of Christianity, and establish a significant Christian presence in the region.

Known as the "Apostle of the Indies," St. Francis Xavier is revered for his tireless missionary work throughout Asia. He is credited with converting thousands to Christianity, and his impact is still deeply felt across the continent. After he died in 1552, his body was brought back to Goa, where it was laid to rest in the Basilica of Bom Jesus in Old Goa. Remarkably, St. Francis Xavier's body remains incorrupt, meaning it has not fully decomposed. This preservation is widely considered a miracle and continues to inspire devotion among millions.

Even more than his written legacy, the life and actions of St. Francis Xavier speak volumes about his character and mission. Over 470 years after his death, his influence continues to be celebrated, and his enduring legacy remains a source of hope and faith for people across the world.
