The name "Bonderam" comes from the Portuguese word for flags, symbolizing the flags used to put boundaries and prevent conflicts among the village wards. In bygone days, these disputes often led to violent clashes, prompting the Portuguese rulers to introduce a system of flagging boundaries to maintain order. The festival commemorates these historical boundary disputes, infusing them with humor and festivity, and transforming a contentious past into a celebration of unity and tradition.
