Prominently, the impact of the Belle Époque period has been seen as a de-fining trait across architectural spaces alongside the incorporation of elements from the Capriccio movement. The rich history of the place has been enshrined in the putti gracing the panels and the glorious facades of palaces and the hotels, transforming the architecture into a facet of exemplary developments that have manifested throughout the cultural history of Monaco.

1.Hôtel Hermitage Built in the late 19th century, this specimen of Neoclassical architecture is a visual summary of masterful architectural evolutions that symbolise the characteristic ornate nature of Monegasque architecture. Designed by Monegasque architect Nicholas Marquet, the primary example of decadence and luxury is the Winter garden’s stained glass designed by Gustave Eiffel. The hotel’s Salle Belle Epoque hall is particularly popular with gala organisers for its exquisitely ornate interiors. Its majestic ceiling was painted by the famous French artist Gabriel Ferrier, who was inspired by the creative expressions of Jean-Honoré Fragonard and François Boucher. Andre Levasseur carried out the renovation of the place emulating the rich artistry exhibited in the pink marble columns, crystal chandeliers and rich decor reminiscent of Louis XIV’s Grand Trianon in Versailles.
